Worship Assistants
Many are needed to help with worship each week. Please consider the following:
Greeter
Greeters of the church play a key role in representing the “first impression” of St. James church to both visitors and members alike. We are looking for members and families who have a passion for sharing a friendly greeting and making people feel comfortable as they enter the church for worship. We need greeters at both the 8:30 and 10:45 services.
Primary responsibilities include:
• Arrive 15 minutes prior to worship service
• Greet people at the entrance of the narthex
• Encourage people to wear name tags
• Assist people with directions and questions as needed
• Provide a warm greeting with a hearty handshake to those who enter
Usher
Acting as an usher at St. James provides a valuable service to St. James and is a great way to meet old and new acquaintances at church. You can serve as a single, a couple or as a family. Instruction and training are provided for new ushers.
The primary responsibilities for the ushers are:
• Lighting candles
• Distribute worship bulletins to attendees
• Provide assistance where needed for seating, etc.
• Collect the offering and bring it forward
• Tidy the sanctuary following the service
Assisting Ministers assist the pastors in conducting the worship service. They are needed at both the 8:30 and 10:45 worship services. They must have an interest in reading scripture and prayers during the worship service as well as assisting in the Sacrament of Communion.
Primary responsibilities include:
• Arrive 10 minutes before service and check in with the pastor(s)
• Pickup the Assisting Minister bulletin at the welcome desk
• Read during the worship service
• Assist with the Sacrament of Communion
Communion Assistant
